Snows on it's way, wrap up in this seasons best knitwear!

Knitted Jacquard Cardigan
Where: Topshop
How Much: £45
Colours: Rose and Cream

Hello beautiful Knitwear, I think it is fair to say this is the best cardigan I have seen this winter, absolutely lovely, so of course |I bought both colours!  Its a wool mix so very soft, the best thing is it is not too over sized, I am quite petite and all the sweaters this season are coming up huge, this one is a great one though if you are vertically challenged as it sits just above the hip line.  All stores have sold through on both colours but they are still available in some sizes online.  Although colours are named rose and cream they would be better under charcoal grey and burnt orange!  Enjoy, hope you can still get one, buy today or tomorrow before the snow comes!

Purchase of the Day!

Flock Heart Pussybow Blouse
Where: New Look
How Much: £22
Colours: Light Mocca

Now here's the deal, I am not a big fan of New Look but this season they are hitting the spot, lots of luxury fabrics and very on trend.  Their Limited Edition collection is great and so are some other pieces in store with this pussybow being my current favourite, the photo doesn't do it justice which is a real shame.  A sheer fabric in a quiet mocha with the cutest little black flock hearts, this is going to be a major player in my wardrobe.  Team with hareems and pumps for work!  New Look seems to struggle with fits from time to time but this is very good for them, so good fit, good fabric, good shape at a bargain price, lets face it you'd be paying £45 for this in Topshop!

Lanvin hearts H&M!

What a day, yesterday I attended the launch of Lanvin hearts H&M's launch, the launch of the quirky collaboration set to make every Christmas party a little more colourful this season with it;s shocking pink and canary yellow dresses.  People were queuing in hoards when I arrived and that was three hours before opening!!  Once the stores had opened there were still queues of an hour and once in store there were time restrictions on the department.  H&M have done designer collaborations before with people like Jimmy Choo, Vicktor and Rolfe, however it seems this is the most popular yet.  If you visit the store today you would probably question what the hype was all about as you are unlikely to find anything by Lanvin left in stock, by lunch time Regents Street had only accessories left and many store had completely sold out by close.
It was talons at the ready in store with fashionistas kicking off over the last size 8, so many people opted for online purchasing however the website ended up going down all morning! For me it was all about feeling the product and the experience, I needed to be there.  With the stock averaging at around £100 a piece it was a pricey H&M shop and made harder by the no trying on rule!  With the time constraints, no fitting and only being allowed to buy one item of each style it is thought they'll be a high influx of returns come the weekend so if you missed out yesterday make sure your free at the weekend!

Grey Slouchy Belt Trousers
Where: Miss Selfridge
How Much: £38
Colour: Grey

Love these trousers, a cross between a peg leg and a hareem they are on trend but easy to wear.  A good transitional piece to take you from day to night.  Although they are called grey I would pin them more at a dark green.  The cheap belt is not a winner, my advice, stop at a charity shop on the way home, I have no idea why Miss Selfridge do this, River Island are guilty of it too, adding a cheap accessories - it scores no points and ends up cheapening the whole item, rant over!  The trousers are lovely and very comfy!  Another plus is that they are full length, so much is cropped at the moment but with white ankles its not a good look!

The day faith questioned fashion!

As I sat in church and the pastor talked about the unimportance of worldly goods it got me thinking.  Was I shallow, am I a bad person for having an unusually passionate interest in fashion, had I been putting clothing before family and friends?  I felt guilty and all of a sudden my brand new cardigan felt scratchy and sinful.  I tried to think of the most important things in my life, the days that really counted, I was worried that my head would be filled full of trips to Vivienne Westwood, Topshop and Urban Outfitters, however when I got down to it the memories that go down as the most important in my life. it appeared that I was not quite as cold hearted as I had first thought.  My head filled with images of my wedding day, the night I met my husband, the days my baby brothers were born, first days at new jobs (there's been a few!), my girls trip to Thailand, the night I met my best friend, my eighteenth birthday.  What quickly struck me was that my family and friends could never be replaced with a piece of fabric or a stiletto heel, although there is a few ex-boyfriends that I'd exchange, a New Look basic would do!  Seriously though it became apparent that fashion obviously played a bigger part than I ever could have imagined.......... it seems I can remember every outfit I have  ever worn, I am not talking wedding dress on wedding day  as I reckon most can recall this but literally every outfit!  My husband and I went on 6 dates the week met, can I remember where we went??..........no..........can I remember what I wore??......... of course!  Be it the baggy red and black jersey dress which was slightly too big for me I was wearing the night I met my husband, the barely there pink dress I wore at Buddha Bar on my 18th, the All Saints Beaujolais dress I wore when my brother Logan was born or the two seasons too early floral shirt I was wearing when my other brother Ben was born or the very very awful fitting PVC trousers I wore on my first non school uniform day at Upper School (not such a trendsetter back in the day).  So it seems that the path of worldly goods and relationships is more intertwined than one would think and  rightly so.  For me fashion is a hobby, my past time, I would imagine for a golfer, a diver, a flutist, some of their most memorable and important moments would be when they were at one with their hobbies.  I think with that in mind it is fair to rethink the lack of depth associated with shopping and that its importance as a past time should be considered as it creates not only memories but confidence.  So next time you feel guilty about shopping think again, there are no health risks associated with it, you will still make it to heaven, you are bound to feel better about yourself after it, just because you like to buy pretties it does not make you less of a person!  Slap on some red lipstick while your there and you'll feel more of a person than you have for ages!  Shopping is just some lighthearted fun, as long as your not spending cash you don't have!  So I guess I'll meet you at Oxford Circus tomorrow at 9!

Truly Madly Deeply Three Vices Slouch Pocket Tee
Where: Urban Outiftters
How Much: £28
Colours: Grey Marl

Love this Tee, as someone who doesn't drink, smoke or have caffeine it is somewhat ironic!  However the rest of the world are off to rehab so what better way to face your vices than with it printed across your chest.  Really great fit Tee, baggy oversized fit, a must for slouchy days off!  This has quickly become my fav tee and is certainly going to be worn to death!

Ten minutes in Topshop!

As I walked out the shop I broke into a sweat and started seriously considering my finances......... How had I let this happen, a week before payday £160 left in my account and now a week before payday and nothing!  So ten minutes ago I was feeling good about myself I had budgeted well this month with almost £40 per day to spend for the next five, enough for the train, lunch and a small treat daily, well done Hayley............ But ten minutes in topshop and it's all over!!
I popped in for my little treat, today was gonna be hair clips, they didn't have the ones I wanted, I heard my head telling my body to leave but my body stood strong and decided that looking at the hosiery would be a good idea.  I knew what was about to happen, it always does when I look at hosiery........... The hosiery is next to the petite section, that's when it happened!  I saw her out of the corner of my eye and goodness me she looked good, a new dress, 'hello, you'd look amazing in my wardrobe', chatting up a dress that's what it has come too! I can still hear my head saying no but before I can think about that my arms full of hangers and I'm already half way to the fitting room.  I pray they won't fit so I can get out of there.  They fit all of them! This is where my conscious kicks in, 4 dresses is absurd, but 2? Well that's practical it'll cover both weekend days, right?  So right now I'm holding two dresses both £38 pounds which is bad enough really but then it gets worse, the shoe department sucks me in, literally it feels like a vacuum pulling me towards the pretties, it's too late I've looked there's no way I can't buy, plus those boots would look incredible with my new dresses!  So there you have it - 10 minutes, 3 items, 180 pounds = 0 cash in the bank!
The crazy thing is this is a regular occurrence, I almost know it's gonna happen but I can't stop it!  One saviour is that splurges like this help me to feel human, like a sky drive, it introduces risk and spontaneity into my life.  I regularly splurge and feel no guilt but at least when it is close to payday it makes me weigh up what I have done and I can proudly announce that riddled with guilt I will return these items first thing tomorrow morning!  Question is what have I got to wear to return things in............ That new dress and boots would look great!

Purchase of the Day!

PU Double Zip Shorts
Where: Topshop
How Much: £38
Colour: Black

PU shorts are a no-no but actually these look great on!  They are not a tight fit so they won't highlight any body worries!  Although a little expensive you'll be saving money on detergent and water as they are wipe clean only.  Very on trend and a must for this time of year as they provide a sexy option in the midst of this freezing weather, team with thick tights to keep out the cold.  The zip detail is not the best but adds a bit of depth to them, and is much needed to get out of them!  Selling fast. size 6 sold out!

Am I too old for this?

'Is this a bit young for me?', a few years ago before nature took it's toll on my body I can remember thinking if your asking that question the answer is obvious! Five years down the line and I have realised that the lines are not as clear cut as I once thought they were.  I am very slim around a six to an eight but regardless of your size as you enter your early twenties your body does some strange things, be it cellulite, varicose vain, fat pockets, skin pigmentation, general weight gain or the skin losing elasticity, we all get it and generally not long after our 21st! What a gift!  Now because of these imperfections at my mere mid twenties I am regularly left in a changing room battling with my brain that I'm nearly a decade older than Pixie Lott and that even she can only just pull those hot pants off!...... Best pop them back then!
With mutton aside I understand that I no longer look great in everything but I still wanna be current maybe even cutting edge.  How do you achieve fashion when the trends are so young, my advice dress the trend around your imperfections, so you have cellulite on your thighs, no doubt it makes you feel incredibly self conscious, I know the feeling, I've seen oranges with smoother skin than my upper thigh but don't be put off by something like the short trend. I've just purchased leather shorts, which conceal lots of blemishes as long as you buy big so...... stick to a looser fit to prevent the double buttock, invest in some 120 denier tights, they hide everything and are tough enough to pull you in to a great shape, still not confident? Whack on another pair of tights! 240 denier equates to looking like an 18 year old again!!! Love it!
Start to think around your shape, skinny jeans are great but a love handles worst nightmare, go for some control pants (sexy ones, yes sexy control pants available from Triumph in black and light chocolate) and invest in this seasons must a boyfriend sweater, it'll hide a multitude of sins!  Get the idea, hold it in on the inside and where its hard to hide bulk up on the outside!
The main thing to remember is not not expose the bits that make you anxious, if you wondering if your too old and your exposing those bits you are probably not too old but just this is the wrong style for you!  Almost anything can be dressed for an age, pay careful attention to length and also arm exposure, it's a sad fact but as age takes it's toll the area around the tops of our arm usually bears the brunt looking similar to a turkeys neck, a look the Saturdays are currently not sporting and thus I suggest you don't.  I'd let tights and shape underwear become your best friends and go up a size where you can in clothing, when you squeeze into anything it'll make you look older, a size bigger is not only more comfortable but will look classier.  Be careful with prints too, they have age written all over them, youngsters go cutting edge, like the current smudge trend however those of us young professionals who are homeowners tend to pick fabrics that would look good as a bedspread for our spare room or a new table cloth for the dinning room, it's our nesting tendencies but the fact is these cute fabrics will make us look less vintage and more actually born in the 60s than we would like!!
The very best advice is find a friend like me who will be brutally honest, my friends never have the chance to ask the dreaded 'am I too old for this?' question, as I'd have whipped it off them before they got the sentence out!  Brutal yes, caring, yes.......... will they thank me, course they will, Jude Laws not gonna ask for their number when they've dressed a decade too young!

Chain Necklace Top
Where: Topshop
Colours: Grey Only
How Much: £35

Really cool T-shirt, great for a night out.  Baggy grey marl T-shirt with a heavy embellished necklace attached.  Statement necklace are one of the key accessories for this season and this Tee makes it an easy trend to wear.  I wear mine with a black body con skirt and tights but would look equally as lovely with some black skinny jeans.  The necklace is very heavy for the top so I would reinforce with a few stitches before pulling the Gaga moves on the dance floor in it!  Great top for Xmas drinks!

A wardrobe of habit!

As my alarm goes off I drift downstairs reach for my morning glass of water and begin to devour my coco pops.  Walk to the mirror, cleanser, toner, moisturiser, make up then tidy up my hair! In zombie fashion I stumble to the car, pull into the train station, park in the same space I park in everyday, pop on my iPod, Craig David for the morning (what, he has a soothing voice).  Once on the train, sitting in the same seat as normal I give it half hour then I turn up the pace, maybe a bit of Kings of Leon, then just before I get off the train I'll bust out the Gaga in preparation for my strut into the city! But before the strut comes the morning chamomile tea, always from Costa!!
Creatures of habit, you got it...........how does this relate to my wardrobe??? Ask my collection of nude shoes........ 12 pairs, necessary, doubtful?? Or maybe one of the fifth teen pairs of hareem pants or hoards of baggy off the shoulder tees could answer!!  We all do it, safe buying, we have items that make us feel good or that we've been noticed in so we buy similar, this can make a wardrobe very samey and means we become less and less creative as we stick with the safe options.
My question is what happens if one morning I decide not to opt for Craig David but instead I tune into some Tinie Tempah, apart from feeling 100 times more cooler and current than I usually do, at best I may get a feeling of power, one because the tracks have hard beats and two because I have decided to take control and go against my normal routine, at worst the music may wake me up more quickly than Craig Davids mellow tunes putting me in a bit of an erratic mood.
Realistically though that feeling of power that I may get is surely worth the risk as during that day I am likely to strive higher to achieve, be determined to complete things and who knows it may give me the confidence I need to ask my boss that key question that's been on the tip of my tongue for the past six months.
This change of routine is powerful stuff right...... so apply that to your wardrobe does it make the same impression?  More so, you are what you wear, pop on a cute little tea dress you'll feel innocent and coy, pop on some gun pants and military boots and you'll feel strong and powerful, tall boots and tight jeans sexy and womanly - get the picture.  Ever wondered why you are feeling a bit...... blurgh?  Maybe you've got into the habit of buying................. blurgh?  You clothes are probably lovely and you may have loads of items but if they are all a bit similar you'll never really feel like you never have new items.  Try something different, so many times I hear 'thats not my style', but........ have you tried it? More importantly have you tried it recently, this is another common misconception just because something didn't suit you at 18 it doesn't mean it won't suit you at 28, be adventurous and try to buy a few different shapes or colours to what you normally wear.  You'll feel a bit unsure at first going against what you normally wear but wait till you go out in a different item and you'll get hundreds of compliments ........you look different and for that reason you'll get noticed!  This is the perfect wardrobe tipfor when you are trying to get noticed for a promotion or if you'd like a guy you've known for ages to see you in a new light, it sounds daft but a style change will really draw peoples eye, it'll have the same effect as dying your hair - pretty impressive hey!

Albert2 Fur Lace Up Boots
Where: Topshop
Colours: Black and Tan
How Much: £68

So for all of you who bought the Albert boot last year and have lived in it ever since, fear not they can now be replaced.  This season they have stuck to black but replaced the grey with tan, to keep them fresh and current they have added a fleece lining.  The fleece lining only comes in cream on the tan boot but is available in both black and cream on the black boots.  These are some of the comfiest boots you'll wear, the leather is so soft.  I was so happy to see them back in store however I would stick to tan as the black has a cheaper look to it, they seem to be coming up bigger than last years too so may be wise to go down a size!  Versatile too as can be worn with the fleece on show or standing tall, I think they look better with the fleece inside as there is so much of that turned down look on the high street right now, and with gorgeous leather is there any need to hide it?  Bring on the bad weather, my toes are now ready, fleece lined ready!

Nothing to wear mornings!

Don't you hate those days where nothing works!  You an have an amazing wardrobe bursting at the seems set to put your local topshop to shame but some mornings whatever you try on just doesn't work!  Even those old reliables that in the past have made you feel invincible are really doing nothing for you today.  I wish I had a miracle answer that could help to trail these days on the road to extinction however there is no simple answer! I have found people that hoard clothes tend to suffer from this more, a good wardrobe is one where all items are worn on a monthly cycle.  If you have lots of stuff you never wear it can make you confuse your style, so first tip have a clear out and be ruthless!  My next tip is to stay calm, while many people couldn't understand why one would get flustered over an outfit for those who have felt this there's nothing more stressful come Monday morning, getting in a panic will muddle you further and probably lead to a bright red body con dress heading off to the office - not a good look, although I am sure the post boy will appreciate it.  Next keep it simple, outfit struggle days tend to lead to the creation of a collage of prints, ugly Betty style, which is then followed by a day of hiding in the copier room in hope that no one will see your faux pas!  If you are struggling to dress yourself, the day should not be about prints and patterns and more importantly not about florals, stick to block colours or even better all black, we usually experience these days brought on by an initial outfit making us feel a little out of shape, black instantly slims us and an all black outfit doesn't require alot of thought, however if you go to work in a black tutu, black cropped pullover and black military boots you haven't quite found the look I was talking about, simple and good shaping lines!  The most important thing to keep in the forefront of your mind is......... Over thinking, we all do it but it leads to disaster, the more you try the worse the outfits will look or so your brain makes you think, try not to get past two outfits as this will lead to the only solution being a sick day!! Does the outfit actually look as bad as you think it does, probably not, try taking off an accessory, it's crazy how a necklace or belt can make or break your outfit!  My biggest tip, go pre-school, before bed lay our your clothes on the bed until you are happy with your outfit for the following day, only once it's perfect may you go to bed!!
Best of luck!

Zip Front Playsuit
Where: Urban Outfitters
Colours: Floral Print, Black, Grey and Pink
How Much: £52

Stuck for something to wear for Saturday night, look no further, playsuits are currently hot property and this style is set to make you every girl in towns envy.  I opted for the grey and I suggest you stick to the block colours, the floral is £6 more and is likely to date quickly, the block coloured suits also look more expensive.  Opt for the grey if you are blond and the pink if your brunette, the pink is so bright you'll have everyone talking about you.  Featuring a gathered waist and baggy pockets at the hip, it hides any hang ups you may have.  Team with black tights, platform boots and a baggy boyfriend blazer.

Please tell me self control comes with age!!

As a young professional I understand and yearn for a nicely decorated home, mines lovely but I'm talking 'Grand Designs' style.  I wish I ate only organic produce sealed in the most romantic packaging, I wish all my holidays could be five star in the Caribbean and don't get me started on saving for a new X5, but the truth is all these things are within my grasp but there is something holiday me back............. My need for new clothes on a daily basis.  In the past I can remember sacrificing meals for new shoes, in my late teens at the time, I as my family did put it down to a phase but almost a decade on the phase is still in full swing.  I regularly question when self control will enter my life and as soon as I think I've found it I can usually be spotted leaving Bluewater with a good eight bags of Zara and Urban Outfitters goods, it's funny how my self control always losses itself in shopping centres!!
Since getting married and buying my house I have on many occasions planned saving schemes In hope to buy a new kitchen or afford a last minute holiday, the problem is once again the saving goes well until I am left alone in a shop!
I am not embarrassed to admit that my happiest moments are usually when I am shopping, the feel of that new fabrics makes my heart go ten to the dozen and the feeling I get as I pop a new garment in my wardrobe is unlike any other feeling I have had however even as one of Britain's biggest shopaholics I can see flaws in my spending habits!  If you take an average twenty something wage of around 25k a year then you multiply it by 10 years (the time I have been wasting cash) we are looking at an income of around 250k, granted you may be on a bit more than that or a little less but the point of it is what have you got to show for if?? With most of us currently on interest only mortgages and at a push a nine grand car it really begs the question where has it all going! I love my wardrobe and I vow never to neglect it, this economy needs people like me to succeed! But...... I can see that I really only need half of what I buy, and that's still generous, how can I satisfy both needs, my habit and my responsibility's........ My plan which is by no means tried or tested is to carry on shopping in my normal places, try on as many clothes as I do now but when I reach the till the plan is to put half of the items back,". For me some of that buzz of shopping is the process this way I still feel like a celebrity on a spree but my bags go home lighter saving that dreadful plastic bag cutting in arm look (not good) and my purse goes home a little heavier! Extra tip is pop that cash you would have spent in a separate account, or give to your mum or husband where it can stay safe for your new kitchen/sofa/honeymoon/Mulberry bag - oops I meant bathroom tiles!!
Maybe a little bit of saving can be fun!! Let's reassess in a few months time!

Overdyed Pegleg Trousers
Where: Warehouse

Great staple for your wardrobe, these pegleg trousers have a paperbag hareem feel and are remarkably comfortable, not to mention how soft they are.  Great trousers for a busy day as can be worn for work of play.  Although they are called light blue on the website they look pretty black.  I've been rocking them today with a baggy tee and boots great combo!  Available in store and on the website.

Fashion Freedom?

So I am back from Morocco and although the holiday was super it's great to be back in my usual shopping centre haunts.  Although I went to Morocco looking for some time out and a tan it provided a new way of looking at fashion for me.  There is a small shopping precinct in Marrakesh with European brands like Etam and Zara most of the locals do their shopping in the souks, a local open air market.  Within the souk there are stalls specialising in pottery, brass, spices and souvenirs but when it comes to fashion the stalls are few and far between.  There are the stalls with fake Louis Vuitton and Gucci and then the traditional dress stalls which stock leather sandals which are a far cry from this seasons gladiator style.  They consist of triangular pieces of  coloured leather which would not look out of place in an Ali-baba production at the local Theatre Royal.  The stalls also stock the traditional tunics which again come in a range of colours and are long and baggy with a triangular hood.  After watching locals in their outfits with nothing but fabric colour to differentiate from one another it made me feel grateful that I had the opportunity to express myself in my attire and that alongside that there was also enough choice around me so that I can express myself.  At points as guilty as this feels to admit it I felt pity for those people, I did not pity them for the way they live, or for where they lived their lives but for the lack of individuality they had.  When I feel uncomfortable in my clothes I feel trapped and I wondered if this was how these people felt.  After sitting on these thoughts for a while I started to question if it was possible that I'd got it all wrong, was it possible that I in fact was the trapped one.  While I had variety and choice when it came to fashion am I really free to wear what I want?  I would say 'No' every magazine tells me my hairs the wrong colour, every advert tells me I should loose weight, every music video makes me re-look at my wardrobe, if we all looked the same would the media be able to manipulate us the way it does?  Imagine if trends did not exist and we had the freedom to wear whatever we wished, the money that would be saved , the stress it would save and the effect it would have on the environment would be massive.  I would imagine a cotton tunic and leather sandals would beat stiletto boots and mini dresses in the comfort stakes too.
So this poses the question which culture is trapped,  what torture is greater the lack of choice or is the pressure to conform?  As a 20 something in 2010 pressure to conform is something I know all about, on a daily basis I question if my lipstick is the right shade of red, my trousers are the right length.  The scary thing that we have with our fashion culture is that it not only impacts us but hits our children just as hard.  I have spoken to girls as young as 9 who worry about their leg hair and girls of 11 concerned that they don't wear thongs, some to scared to do PE at school as they're afraid that their friends will ostracize them due to their choice of underwear.  Is this right, No, is it possible that the volume of choice has become to much and set us against each other, leaving everyone in constant competition to look the best or have the most, the simple answer is 'Yes'.  Are we at fault for this? Not completely, the burden must remain mostly on the media but we play our part.  For that reason we have the choice to make things change for the better with small steps, 'How', by putting less pressure on our girlfriends.  I urge you to encourage your friends to find the true them and embrace it even if their signature style is boot cut jeans, it may not be current but it's comfy and it suits them, and who knew they may just bring them back.
So remember next time you see that batty lady over the road with the pink hair, crazy shoes and glitter dress don't giggle at her appreciate her individuality and see if you too can learn something from her style!

Having a quick break!

Just a quick note to let you know I am off on holiday tomorrow and as a result my shopping will be put on hold for a whole week but I promise to be back soon with tales of Moroccan purchases and expect lots of swimwear updates!  Have a great week, happy shopping ladies, do me proud and get buying, those purchases of the day won't find themselves!!

Purchase of the Day!

Leopard Frame Sunglasses
Where: Topshop
How Much: £16
Colour: Leopard Print and Floral Print

What better purchase to make at the start of an Indian Summer weekend!  These sunnies are great fun and double smash the trends, animal print and a flat frame!  As many trends in one item as LOOK magazine!  Available in store or online and come with a cute little protective pouch.  Although these glasses are a fashion statement they are classic enough to wear day to day but are guaranteed to add a bit of kitsch to the most boring outfit!  I am off to Marrakech tomorrow and I intend to rock my outfits up the souks with these winners!

Is it really too expensive?

Shopping is my favourite pastime and in the past I was too eager to buy before looking at the price tag, but as the recession has crept up on me it has started to make me consider how much I spend on an item.  Is £200 for a pair of jeans too much? Is a top at £20 reasonable?  The real question is where is the item from and how often will I wear it?  I have a price system per store, so in Topshop a reasonable priced top is £25 and a reasonable priced dress £35, anything over these prices and I do a lap of the store to decide if I will really wear the item.  Different stores have different price systems so a reasonable top in H&M is about £12.99 and a dress £24.99, its important to bear this concept in mind when shopping, I promise it'll bring an end to your unwanted bargain finds in Primark!!  More important than having store pricings is to consider the items VPW, 'Value Per Wear', this has and will continue to be my shopping guardian angel as it puts things in perspective.  A pair of new G-Star jeans at £180 may seem a bit excessive but when you consider that the average pair of jeans is worn 428 times during it's three year life in your wardrobe it actually makes those G-Star jeans a mere forty-two pence per wear!!  Give up your daily chocolate bar and your jeans are paid for, who wants a chocolate bar anyway when you have new sexy jeans!  The VPW will really help when you are raiding value retailers like Primark and H&M, when you buy a top for £15 - £20 , really consider the VPW, is the item gonna be a one time hit if so, is £20 per wear a bit much?
However if my husband reads this and asks if I have considered my VPW on my Louboutins it is important to make everyone aware that we are looking at value per wear and they hurt like hell so I remove them at least 30 times per night out so actually a total bargain, even if I do only wear them once in a blue moon!!!!!

Chocolate worker ankle boots
Where: Debenhams
How Much: £50
Colour: Chocolate

In the past I've been one to knock Debenhams footwear it usually looks cheap and is behind the trends but these military boots are certainly competition for the rest of the high street.  The boots are by Red Herring and a real winner, to make them look a little more urban I suggest only lacing to the 4th eyelet, makes them less department store and more Brighton boutique.  As a fan off All Saints boots these are a mega close match, the best bit they don't come with the £165 price tag!  I suggest you pop to G-star with your saving to grab some baggy boyfriend jeans as they look great tucked in the boots, pair with a plain white tee and your good to go, instant style which is comfy too!

Heeling too old!?

Now as a fashion conformist I've had a heel or two in my time.  I have no problem buying beautiful shoes with amazing heels even though I know full well they'll spend their entire existence in my wardrobe.  I am aware this is a fashion crime, beautiful shoes deserve to go to the finest restaurants and the trendiest nightclubs.  My problem is while I could stand on a six inch all day long when I was 18 I now need to seek a bit of comfort in my shoes.  Why is it that seven years ago I could withstand a nine hour shift in platforms then change to an even higher heel for my stint in the local clubs.  I guess I could surrender and start wearing a lower heel but instead I have started devising ideas to get me through the evenings in the highest heel status possible.

Tip 1: Start hosting dinner parties, with 'Come dine with me' being so popular everyones into it and it gives you maximum sitting down time so your toes don't take your weight!
Tip 2: Invest in some rollasoles, a cute pair of flat pumps which are small enough to fit in your handbag.  When the burn gets to much pop these pumps on before the walk home.
Tip 3: Stick to platforms instead of heels as there is less pressure on the feet.
Tip 4: Heel switcharooney, here is a tip to having sexy long legs all day, as long as you wear different heels to work and play the change in heel height will make your feet feel as good as a rest!
Tip 5: Remember to break in before you breakout, shoes are never dance ready so give them a good break in first, my tip is around the house while you do the hoovering, another idea is a fitness DVD, if you can withstand the pain for the duration of the DVD you are definitely dance floor ready.
Tip 6: Maybe an old wives tale but maybe not, bath your feet in Epsom salts, then get a wine bottle out and roll it under the arches of your foot (have a glass or two, that'll dull the foot pain) then pop your feet into your shoes for the evening, works wonders.  Another extra tip is to warm the shoes up first.
Failing that pop some gel pads in your handbags girls!

Chunky Cobweb Snood
Where: Topshop
How Much: £16
Colours: Tobacco, Black and Plum

Knitted snood with cobweb effect, bang on trend and a great outfit maker!  Jeans and T-shirt not making you feel like a trendsetter pop this snood on and it'll instantly give your outfit some style.  Snoods are the in product on the urban scene this season with the likes of Jude Law, Kate Moss and the Saturdays making them a staple I'd suggest you get one quick.  A great piece for your changeable wardrobe too as it's an easy to remove warm layer.  I have this in the black and the tobacco but I would suggest the tobacco as a must as it's one of the colours that will be talked about this season.  On a budget, check out H&M they have a similar snood for £7.99.

Changeable weather, changeable wardrobes!

Is anyone else struggling with the changeable weather?  It's hard enough trying to put an outfit together in the morning each day let alone having to then make sure the outfit will withstand a complete 360 turn in temperature change.  I am finding that of a morning I am wrapped up in my leather jacket, with a boho scarf and military boots but come midday I am ready to pop on my gladiator sandals, what is a girl to do?  Apart from the pure annoyance of it I am ending up red faced and sweaty for my meetings or alternatively have to pop into Primark for a quick fix cardigan.  My advice for a perfect October outfit is of course to use some layering but more specifically think carefully!  Replace your boots with brogues a great early autumn staple, your feet won't get wet in them like they will in your sandals in the quick downpours but they are still airy enough to keep you cool in the warm afternoons.  Capri pants or Chinos in a heavyweight fabric are a good idea too, the thick fabric will keep you toasty but the gap between your trouser and shoe will give you some aeration.  On top keep to layering, a stylish silk top with a cardi and blazer jacket top it off with a chunky scarf, this look will give you a few options throughout the day, don't forget your most important October accessory.......... your umbrella ladies!

Stretch Flower Border Vest

How Much: £30
Colour: Off white with black print

I Purchased this today and love it, it gives the opportunity to do floral but with a sophisticated twist!  It has already had it's first outing with some black hareem pants, killer heels and a beige blazer.  Although not clear from the photo the top is quite sheer so can be worn with a white bra for a sexy night out look or pair with a black camisole for work wear.  Great with a blazer and heels or black skinnys for a more casual look.  It's available in store on online but be quick certain sizes have already sold out!

Wedding House is about to begin.

Turn over to Channel 4 for 8pm as their new wedding reality TV show is about to start.  'Wedding House' has been tipped for the next big thing in reality TV, a show where couples get to make their fantasy weddings reality - sounds totally tacky and therefore I'm in!

I only need what I want!

Defining need in shopping terms is nigh impossible, when we go on a country walk we need wellies, when we are starting a new office job we need some smart low sensible heels and yet although we know we need these items we don’t need them like we want a new pair of platform boots which admittedly have no need at all (apart from fulfilling our life).  I think it is true that when we look at need in a shopoholics terms what we are actually saying is that ‘buying essentials is an excuse to go to town’.  So when we venture into town at the end of the month on a limited budget needing new light bulbs and white sports socks what are the chances of bringing home the readies.  Inevitably we will end up with that new dress for tonight that we wanted instead of our 'need' items and as a result will walk about in rolled down black socks in the dark until pay day.  Why are we wired like this?  If you are reading this and are not a compulsive shopper you will of course opted for the sports socks and light bulbs and no doubt pocketed the change into savings and be left wondering why there is ever a need for a new dress when there are plenty in your wardrobe at home.  Let me fill you in on this, us compulsives have no control over our actions, we will stand in the cashier queue worrying how we will be able to read the paper each morning in the dark but the scent of a new purchase scrambles our brain.  I have been told in the past that this consumerist behaviour is linked to dealing with anger and sadness and will leave you regretful or depressed however my experience is quite the contrary.  The feeling I get with a new purchase (after my card has gone through without being declined) is that of elation, before I have walked out of the shop I know where my new purchase will sit in the wardrobe and what it will look best with for a night out with the girls.  What is more satisfying pleasing a need or pleasing a want?  I think it is fair to say that what is a need to one is in fact not an essential to another?  While one person can do without a new pair of platforms another will make do with a leaky tap.  So I guess what I have found in my shopping experience is that want and need are closer than we think and their true definition can only be determined by the user!
Would I change my days of living on super noodles for new super shoes?   Would I change the year I had without a TV license as I spent it on a holding payment on a new Gucci handbag?   Should I stop calling in sick on the last day of the month as I have run out of fuel and spent my last twenty pound the day before in Topshop?  More importantly would I turn the clock back and start living my life by need not want…………………….. no chance!

PU Quilted Jacket
Where: Warehouse
How Much: £55
Colours: Black and Stone

A great biker jacket, spot on fake leather, so far no one has realised it origin!  So on trend for this season but still classic enough that it can carry through to next season.  Very similar to the jacket Cheryl Cole wore on X Factor on Saturday, can't guarantee you'll look like Cheryl in it but it is worth a try!  Best thing, this jacket is not only likely to make you look bang on trend but it'll leave you with pennies in your pocket as your average  basic leather this season will set you back £140!  Net Style maths says you'd save £85 for this jacket best pop to Topshop for the new Annex boots with your saving!

Tiff bags next top model crown!

Well Britain's next top model is over till next season and our new NTM is crowned without a hitch unlike Australia's show.  Winner aside a disappointing show, a poor presenter with far too many replays and it has to be said although the Saturday girls are the hottest bods in the celeb kingdom right now their their live vocals left a lot to be desired as did Joy's Union Jack dress!  Loving Charlotte's bright blue eyeshadow, get yours from Rimmel, try 'Colour rush mono special effect' in 'Tempted or Alluring shade', currently available at ASOS for £2!

9pm Britain's Next Top Model Final Tonight!!

Don't forget to tune into Living this evening for the final of Britain's Next Top Model.  Elle has called the shots so far but now it is our chance, who will you pick to fly the flag for new talent on the fashion scene Joy, Alisha or Tiffany.  Finally the live show promo pics have been released and it's safe to say that finally Tiff has a winning hair doo!  I'll be backing Alisha, who will you be supporting?  Check back tomorrow for BNTM gossip!

Is less more?

Within fashion this is a very difficult concept, those outfits that are talked about for years after they’ve walked the red carpet are always more, they are embedded as a visual print in our minds for longer than we care to remember but realistically when we associate these memories with good taste there seems to be little to no link.  Think about it, can you visually recall any red carpet outfits in your mind without seeing Bjorks swan dress, Jordan’s pink slink round sequin number or one of Lady Gaga’s crazies!  Now although these fashion creations will receive ultimate press coverage it will almost certainly be for the wrong reasons.  You may wonder how this relates to you and your wardrobe, it’s simple…………… we all have those wild pieces in our wardrobe, that crazy neon green sequin dress we bought in the sale, the full length dress with wild horses printed on it or the 8 inch stilettos with red and blue heart detail which we looked fantastic in ten years ago.  While these pieces have probably been in our wardrobe for a few years the amount of times they’ve been worn could usually be counted on our ears alone, if that.  In fact a recent study of women’s wardrobes have found that within our closets us ladies alone are stashing £2.8 billion pounds worth of clothes that are not worn, this translated into individual talk equates to around 10 items per person.  Don’t get me wrong these bold items will make you feel like a celebrity and they’ll make you feel adventurous however that’s just when you are looking at them in your bedroom.  The issue is that as adventurous as they make us feel to gaze at them we are never adventurous enough to wear them, don’t feel defeated we all have those items but empower yourself and get rid.  By having these eccentric unworn items in our wardrobe it stops us from developing our own actual style, a basic wardrobe of things you actually wear is much easier to work, so go ahead clear it out.  What’s even more ideal about this scenario is there are women out there who believe it or not will pay a fortune for these obscure pieces so get them on Ebay and spend the gains on a new classic Mac or a well cut pair of jeans, staples you’ll feel great in and that will be talked about for the right reasons.

Handy clear out tips:
  • Throw out memory items, just because you wore something for a first date with your boyfriend doesn’t mean you need to hang onto it for your last date too.
  • Don’t double season without a wear, fair enough you won’t get wear out of a summer dress in winter nor Ugg boots in summer but if you have two whole season without wearing something it’s ready to leave the wardrobe.
  • Get rid of unworn showstoppers, you keep thinking there may be an opportunity to wear it down the line but realistically unless you are planning to join the circus any time soon I very much doubt it.

And it all started with a little red shoe!

Have you ever thought that your obsession with fashion was growing to dizzy heights?  Do you frequently lose whole days when you have just popped out for some new tights?  Do you find yourself falling for every trend?  Does the local Topshop assistant know you by name?  Have you lied in order to get that new 'it' dress?  Do you have sleepless nights wondering how you will afford your next handbag?  Do you love the feel of new clothes?  Has shopping stopped becoming a way of life for you and actually is now you life ....................................... well you are in good hands!!  From a lady who has faked car parking tickets to excuse money from her joint bank account for Topshop boots, spent days ebaying just in order to purchase a new All Saints dress, lived on super noodles for a fortnight to get a LBD and most commonly spent a small fortune on fashion magazines comes Net Style!!
I envisage this blog as a non stop shopping haven, I promise to update you on purchases and give you up to the minute advice on what to look out for in a boutique near you!  With an extensive retail background I'm always ahead of the trends but more importantly understand fashion is about the individual!  Fashion magazines are not there to be imitated, they are there for inspiration ,this is my advice.  We need to be realistic ladies while messy hair and mini skirts rock on the under twenty's its more Kate Bush on the moors on the over thirties, meanwhile classic vintage looks sexy and mysterious on an older woman and a little mum's dressing up box on the teens!  My advice just stay true to you, the you inside and you'll look great on the outside!
For me the obsession of shopping is not just that fresh feel of a new purchase but the whole package.  One of my greatest childhood memories was my first shopping experience, not my first shopping encounter but experience, where I recognised the feeling of being special that was linked with a shopping trip ........... I was six and I was in a shoe shop, the desired purchase red patent Mary Jane's for a family wedding.  I remember seeing the shoes, they were at that very moment in time the only thing I needed in my life, as I sat down and the shop assistant attended my Mother with a coffee and I a juice and a lolly.  Already I was feeling like a very important six year old, as she measured my feet and brought me the correct size, I hit princess status, dancing around the store in my new princess slippers.  I can remember the battle to remove them from my feet and the clincher of the deal was that they would be wrapped in magic tissue, with that I pulled them off as I observed the assistant wrap them delicately as if they were pieces of fine art, for me that is of course exactly what they were.  This day marked a huge point in my life, it was the start of my daily obsession of playing shoe shops but more importantly it marked the day that would shape my work life and spare time, I had become a slave to shopping.............and I would not change it for the world!
